WHAT A PRIZE - THREE GREAT BOOKS

I reported earlier that I had won a prize of "a book or two" from guest judge "bluechrome" on DJ Kirkby's Wordless Wednesday competition recently. Well I certainly had a very pleasant surprise this week when the postman delivered three great books to my door. These are the books:-

There are two novels by Joe Stein. The first one is "Cold Fire, Calm Rage" which introduces us to Garron, an ex-boxer turned bodyguard and the second is "Another Man's World" with further adventures for Garron. I haven't had a minute yet to start reading these but I'm really looking forward to them having had the pleasure of meeting the author at DJ Kirkby's book launch back in January.

The other book is "Doggone" by Erik Ryman. This book is described as "a modern fable, a surreal and bizarre satire"and "the characters may be drawn from a lunatic mind". This all sounds absolutely fascinating. There is nothing within the book covers to tell me more about this author other than the fact that he has asserted his right under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 to be identified as the author. Well at least we know he is assertive! I shall have to "google" him to find out more.

So many, many thanks to bluechrome for their kind generosity in sending me these three books as the caption competition prize. I'm absolutely delighted and am looking forward to three good reads over the next few days.

I didn't win DJ's competition this week (11th March). I thought I'd let someone else win/I couldn't think of a witty enough caption (delete as applicable). However Trixie was kind enough to choose my entry on her WW competition this week and my trophy for this has now been uploaded into my trophy cabinet (see first posting on this blog for all my trophies).

I'VE WON A FREE BOOK!

The guest judges on DJ Kirkby's Wordless Wednesday competition this week were bluechrome (I think its a little b). As well as giving me the winning prize they have also very generously awarded a "free book or two" to the Troy family. Mrs Troy got the runners up prize this week. She got the first prize in the competition a few weeks ago as well as getting the best prize of all two Februarys ago when she married me. When the book(s) arrive I'll post details here. As well as the book(s) I got a new trophy which is in the trophy cabinet below.

MRS TROY BEATS ME!

This is not a desperate cry for help from a battered husband. Mrs Troy does not beat me in that way. However this week she beat me on DJ Kirkby's Wordless Wednesday caption competition. Usually I invite Mrs Troy into my study to read the various submitted captions. This time, after reading them, she told me she wanted to submit one of her own. I was at the keyboard so I took dictation. She came up with something regarding an April Fool joke. I told her that was no good as it wasn't April and therefore not topical. She told me to delete what she had dictated to me. Then she tried again, but stubbornly keeping to the April Fool joke concept. I suggested that she use "shocking" in the caption since electricity was a key component of the picture. She took up this idea and submitted a caption. She won!

I'm not the sort of husband who thinks his wife should walk 6 feet behind him - no, I am much more enlightened. However I don't think wives should beat their husbands at submitting witty captions. They should know their place.

HERE'S MY COLLECTION OF TROPHIES

I've set up a separate trophy cabinet for my caption prizes. Thanks to DJ Kirkby (Denyse) and to Trixie for these awards. Here they are with the most recent ones first.

Pleased to win the one above from Chopper as I appreciate his sense of humour too.

The above is only a little trophy but it came with a big extra - "a free book or two" from the publishers bluechrome. I've never won a book before although I've practiced a winning speech since the age of eight in front of a bathroom mirror holding a large sponge as a book. Well its not a sponge now!

When the book(s) arrive I'll post details here.

I've been in two minds whether to include the above award as everyone was given it on that particular week. This seems a bit like at some school sports days when every child gets a certificate for taking part. I submitted six captions, none of which I was particularly pleased with, so I will just include it as my "quantity" award.

I got awarded the above on Friday 13th! This was for one of my favourite captions which particularly amused Mrs Troy too.

I guess you can't always win so I'm happy to have this second place having been beaten by a better caption on the day. In fact, having now won this award a second time (20/02/2009), I guess that's twice I can't always win.

My first Trixie award.

Mrs Troy has also won one of the above awards but it was not in the same week

I got a couple of these smilies.
